Official National League baseball (Heydler) signed in black fountain pen, on separate panels, by Babe Ruth and Dutch Ruether. Ruth's signature appears on the sweet spot, and Ruether's has been signed upside down on a side panel. There is an additional signature on a side panel in an unknown hand. Ruth and Ruether were teammates on the New York Yankees in 1926 and 1927. Though we do not know the history of this ball, it seems reasonable to assume that it was signed by the pair sometime during those two seasons. The ball is moderately soiled, including a few areas of discoloration, and most of the manufacturer's labels have faded (enough of the main label remains visible to positively identify it as an official National League ball). There are surface abrasions throughout and a printed ink notation on a side panel. In Fair to Good condition overall. Despite the flaws, the early Ruth signature remains clearly legible. Though this does not qualify as a Babe Ruth single-signed ball, it certainly displays as one. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500.
