Graded VG 3 by SGC (submitted by REA). 1909 was a banner year for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Not only did the club christen its new stadium, Forbes Field, but it also captured the first World Championship in franchise history. Just prior to the club's 1909 World Series appearance, The Pittsburg Press commemorated the club's pennant-winning season by issuing a colorful "Pennant Winners" supplement featuring portrait images of twenty-five team members. The offered real-photo postcard pictures that very supplement! Included are Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, Vic Willis, Deacon Phillipe, Tommy Leach, Babe Adams, Howie Camnitz, and team owner Barney Dreyfuss. Many of the portrait images will be familiar to card collectors, as all are the work of famed Boston photographer Carl Horner, many of which were used in card sets (and other printed items) of the era. The Wagner portrait on this piece is the same one that was used for his legendary T206 tobacco card issued that same year. The postcard displays a few light creases and minor wear at the corners and along the edges. The traditional postcard reverse has not been addressed or mailed. A worthy addition to any world-class collection of 1909 Pirates items, Honus Wagner cards, or rare baseball postcards. Dimensions: 5.25 x 3.25 inches. Reserve $300.
