Two oversized real-photo team postcards featuring the Chicago White Sox and Cubs. The 1906 White Sox were known as the "hitless wonders" for their lack of offense. Despite their extremely limited success at the plate, the White Sox shocked the baseball world by defeating the powerful Cubs, winners of a then-record 116 games, in the World Series. 1) Real-photo postcard capturing Charles Comiskey and his 1906 White Sox. Twenty-three team members are pictured in a traditional team pose, including Comiskey, player/manager Fielder Jones, Ed Walsh, Frank Owen, Nick Altrock, Frank Isbell, Billy Sullivan, Jiggs Donohue, George Davis, and Ed Hahn. The photo is captioned "The White Sox" in white lettering along the base. The photographer's credit and copyright date, "Copyright 1906 Fred H. Wagner Chicago" appears in the lower-left corner. The postcard (6-7/8 x 4-7/8 inches) has not been mailed and has no writing on the reverse. Moderate edge and corner wear is evident, as is a heavy diagonal crease in the lower left. In Fair condition overall. 2) Real-photo postcard capturing the 1906 Cubs in a traditional team pose, including Tinker, Evers, Chance, and Brown. The photo is captioned "The Cubs" in white lettering along the base. The photographer's credit and copyright date, "Copyright 1906 by Fred H. Wagner Chicago" appears in the lower-right corner. The postcard (6-7/8 x 5 inches) has been addressed and mailed on the reverse. Heavy creasing and edge chipping is evident, as is a small tear on the top edge. The back has evidence of album removal. In Poor condition overall. Total: 2 postcards. Reserve $200.
