Graded GOOD 2 by PSA. Beautiful E101 "Set of 50" candy card featuring the legendary Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson in a horizontal throwing pose. While Mathewson was included in many candy-card issues from the 1910 era, this horizontal throwing pose is considered by many to be the most attractive of all Mathewson caramel-card designs. The manufacturer of E101 is unknown. The artwork of Mathewson on this card is identical to that found in several candy sets of the era that share the same designs, including E105 Mello-Mint and E102 "Set of 25." This is a very striking card despite the modest assigned grade. Bright and crisp, with excellent centering and honest corner wear. The E101 back reads simply "This card is one of a set of 50 Base Ball Players - Prominent Members of National and American Leagues." Caramel cards, of course, are rarely found in high grade. This is a superb example of one of Christy Mathewson's most classic cards. Reserve $10.
