Rarely offered near-complete set of 1912-1913 C57 Imperial Tobacco Hockey consisting of 38 of the 50 cards that comprise this rare Canadian tobacco issue. Missing the following twelve cards for completion: #1 Vezina, 4, 7, 9, 14, 16 Hall, 27 LeSueur, 29 Darragh, 32, 36, 43 Taylor, and 44 Lalonde. Unlike baseball's most significant vintage sets such as T206 and 1933 Goudey, which are widely known throughout the collecting world, hockey's great rarities and earliest issues are relatively unknown, except by veteran hockey-card collectors. The first hockey sets were all Canadian issues and are among hockey collecting's premier items. This particular set is noted for its incredible player selection, with eighteen Hall of Famers, including Art Ross. Condition is 23% Vg to Vg-Ex, 22% Gd, and 55% Pr to Fr. Keys: #2 Broadbent RC (Pr), 3 Benedict RC (Pr), 5 Dunderdale (Gd-Vg), 15 S. Cleghorn (Fr), 18 Moran (Pr), 19 Hyland (Gd), 20 Ross (Vg), 23 Roberts (Vg-Ex), 24 Gardner (Fr), 25 Johnson (Vg+), 26 Russell (Pr-Fr), 34 Gerard RC (Vg+), 39 Broughton RC (Fr-Gd), 40 Boyce RC (Fr-Gd), 41 Patrick (Gd), 45 Pitre (Pr), 46 Laviolette (Pr), 48 Malone (Pr), and 49 Walsh (Pr-Fr). This is only the second near-complete (or complete) set of these C57 Imperial Tobacco cards that we have offered in the past 20 years. A very attractive and rarely offered near-complete set of one of the most important of all early hockey issues. Total: 38 cards. Reserve $500.
