Exceedingly rare Cleveland Indians program issued for the 1920 World Series against the Brooklyn Robins. This program is far rarer than its Brooklyn Robins counterpart. In fact, this is the first example of this program that we have handled in the past eighteen years. The preprinted lineups include Wambsganss, Speaker, Smith, and Sewell for Cleveland, and Wheat, Olson, Myers, and Konetchy for Brooklyn. The program has been neatly scored in pencil for Game 4, a 5-1 Cleveland victory. The Indians defeated the Robins five games to two in the Series (it was a best-of-nine affair). Today, the Series is best known for two famous firsts, each of which occurred in Game 5. In the first inning, Indians outfielder Elmer Smith hit the first grand slam in Series play. Four innings later, teammate Bill Wambsganss completed the only unassisted triple play in the history of the Fall Classic. The program (5.5 x 8.75 inches) presents exceptionally well overall, having been professionally cleaned on the front and back covers. A tiny tear on the bottom edge of the front cover (also affecting the first interior page) is present as is a diagonal crease on the back cover. The program, which was originally offered as Lot 1903 in our Fall 2021 auction, has had its binding professionally restored to its original state with the bottom staple reinforced. This is a very attractive example of this rare World Series program. Reserve $1,000.
