Presented is a near-complete master set of 405 cards from the 1933 R73 Goudey Indian Gum series, consisting of the 216 basic cards plus 189 variations (each relating to the series size listed on the card reverse). Missing only the variations of #35, 51, 116, and the twenty-four Series 312 "White Background" cards (all offered as separate lots in this auction) for completion of a full master set. The R73 Goudey Indian Gum set is one of the most popular and difficult to complete of all the 1930s gum-card issues. Its outstanding color, detailed artwork, and popular subject matter all contribute to make this set one of nonsport collecting's all-time classics. Advanced collectors are well aware that Indian Gum cards are far more difficult to collect in high grade than baseball cards of the era, in part because they are considerably rarer. This is the first near-complete (or complete) master set we have ever offered! Forty cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA (35) and SGC (5). The condition of the 365 unencapsulated cards is 28% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a few better; and Series 288 cards #119, 124, 142, 150, 185, 199, 200, and 202), 64% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 8% lesser.
The breakdown by series is as follows:
Series 24 (24 cards): Including #17 (VG-EX 4), 18 (EX 5), and 19 (VG-EX 4).
Series 48 Red Panel (95/96 cards): Including #127 (EX-MT 6), 128 (VG 3), 132 (EX-MT+ 6.5), 140 (EX+ 5.5), 160 (EX 5), 170 (EX+ 5.5), 183 (VG-EX 4), 187 (NM 7), 199 (NM+ 7.5), 207 (EX-MT 6), and 208 (NM 7). Missing #116 for a complete subset.
Series 48 Blue Panel (23/24 cards): Including #32 (EX 5) and 43 (NM+ 7.5). Missing #35 for a complete subset.

Total: 405 cards (complete set of 216 plus 189 variations). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $2,500.
