Of all the various trophies and awards created to honor excellence in the field of sports, perhaps none is more attractive or visually impressive than the Major League Baseball World Series trophy. Offered is a 1980 Philadelphia Phillies World Series trophy commemorating the club's 1980 World Championship season. These trophies, produced by world-renowned jewelers Balfour, were presented only to team personnel and players. This is the first 1980 Phillies trophy we have ever offered and we can recall only having seen two other examples at auction in the past 20 years. The imposing design features 26 gold-colored pennants bearing, respectively, the team name of each Major League franchise, displayed around the perimeter of the black wooden base. The interior metal design consists of a silver baseball, set within a gold band, atop which rests a crown. Displayed directly in front of this are the 1980 World Series press pins for the Phillies and Royals. The gold-colored band affixed around the base reads "World Champions Philadelphia Phillies 1980" in black lettering. The Phillies defeated the Royals 4-1 in Game 6 to capture their first World Championship in franchise history. The trophy remains in Near Mint conditon. This is an extraordinary display piece worthy of any world-class Phillies, World Series, or award collection. Height: 12 inches. Diameter: 7 inches. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $1,000.
