Presented is an exceptional example of the extremely rare and historically significant ticket stub from Game 8 of the infamous 1919 World Series between the Chicago White Sox and Cincinnati Reds, held at Comiskey Park in Chicago on October 9th. This is one of the great rarities of all World Series tickets of the era, in addition to naturally being one of the most sought-after. Graded GOOD 2 by PSA (submitted by REA). This is one of only two examples graded at this level, with NONE graded higher! It is also one of only three examples listed in the PSA Population Report and the first we have ever offered (graded or otherwise). There have been only two other examples offered at public auction in recent years, a PSA GOOD 2 (just the small identifying section of the ticket was presented) and a PSA Authentic, realizing $22,800 and $34,800, respectively. The Reds won Game 8 by a score of 10-5 and rumor had it that White Sox starting pitcher Lefty Williams, who was knocked out in the first inning after giving up four runs, had been told by certain interested parties that neither he nor his wife would live past the night should the Reds win the game. This ticket stub is highly prized by both World Series ticket and 1919 "Black Sox" scandal collectors today. 1919 Chicago World Series tickets are rarely seen approaching this fine condition. The ticket stub (1-1/4 x 3-3/8 inches) is downgraded due to light creasing and a half-inch tear on the lower left edge. The 1919 World Series is still the most famous World Series in baseball history. As such, all tickets from the Series have a historical significance and universal appeal that transcends ticket collecting. Reserve $2,500.
