Graded EX-MT+ 6.5 by PSA (submitted by REA). Presented is a remarkable high-grade example of Hall of Famer Ted Williams from the 1939 Play Ball set. The 1939 Play Ball Ted Williams rookie has always been recognized as one of vintage-card collecting's great classics. This is a very strong example with a crystal-clear image featuring the "Splendid Splinter" in his familiar swing-thru pose. Crisp and clean, with outstanding centering and four strong corners showing very light wear. Clean reverse. It is fascinating to note that the text on the back of this rookie card reports that "Ted Williams, one of the youngest players in baseball, has a great future according to experts." Ted Williams' Play Ball rookie is part of PSA's Top 250 Sportscards in the Hobby set, based on the book Collecting Sports Legends: The Ultimate Hobby Guide, by Joe Orlando, which selects the most significant cards from all the different sports. Examples of premier rookie cards, such as this, in high grades have realized exceptionally strong prices recently. An outstanding example and worthy addition to any Ted Williams or classic-card collection. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+.
