Pete Rose H&B signature-model ("S2") bat dating from the 1965-1968 manufacturing period. The bat displays heavy use along its entire length, including numerous ball and cleat marks. Rose has signed the bat in black marker (grading "9") directly below the barrel stamping. This is an early Pete Rose pro-model bat, with its period of manufacture coinciding precisely with Rose's emergence as one of baseball's greatest hitters. Rose debuted with the Reds in 1963, but it wasn't until 1965 that his legacy truly began. After posting averages of .273 and .269, respectively, in 1963 and 1964, Rose posted his first of nine consecutive .300 seasons in 1965. During the four-year period 1965-1968, Rose led the National League in hits twice (1965 and 1968) and totaled 200 or more hits in a season three times. He also captured his first of an eventual three batting titles in 1968 (.335). Length: 36 inches. Weight: 34 ounces. Early Pete Rose pro-model bats dating from the mid-to-late 1960s are very scarce (almost all Pete Rose bats date from the 1970s or later), and this is an exceptional example. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
