Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, the Kellogg's cereal company was the only true competition for Topps in the baseball-card market. The 1970 issue, offered here, represents the first time in decades that Kellogg's included baseball cards in cereal boxes, and is well known for its three-dimensional design. These sets have always been of great interest to collectors as they offer affordable alternatives to standard-issue Topps cards of the many Hall of Famers and stars included in each set. An impressive twenty-one Hall of Famers are featured throughout this set, including Johnny Bench, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, and Ernie Banks, as well as the many other stars of the day, including Pete Rose. This set was, at one time, entirely graded MINT 9 by PSA, but it was cracked out for easier presentation and storage. Well-centered throughout, the condition of this set is Nr/Mt-Mt to Mint overall, with only a few lesser. Keys: #2 Rose (Mint), 7 Seaver (Mint), 12 Mays (Nr/Mt-Mt), 27 Clemente (Nr/Mt-Mt), 32 Jackson (Gd due to surface crack), 40 Banks (Mint), 58 Bench (Nr/Mt-Mt), and 71 Gibson (Mint). Outstanding ultra-high-grade complete set of this unusual 1970s baseball series. Total: 75 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
