Real-photo postcard capturing seventeen members of the 1908 Richmond Colts, champions of the Virginia League. The players are pictured in a classic team pose, with a large American flag serving as the backdrop. Included in the photo are player/manager Perry Lipe (middle row, third from the right) and Robert "Dutch" Revelle (middle row, far right), both of whom are featured in the 1909-1911 T206 White Border tobacco card series as members of Richmond. A vintage black-ink notation is written along the left front border. Addressed and mailed, the reverse letter conveys baseball content, reading in full: "The bunch that won the Va. League pennant. Won 87 lost 41 - 680%. Closed yesterday. P. H. Lipe." The sender is none other than Perry Hamilton Lipe, member of the Richmond Colts and Southern Leaguer featured in the T206 set. It is postmarked "Richmond, VA Sep 20 1908." The postcard (5.5 x 3.5 inches) displays a few light creases, even corner wear, and light soiling on the reverse. Downgraded to FAIR 1.5 by SGC (submitted by REA) due to writing on the front, as well as a penned address, stamp, and postmark on the reverse. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
