Postwar Baseball - 1950s Cards
Issued in the heart of the decade, the 1954 Topps set features many Hall of Famers and stars, including two examples of Ted Williams (first and last card in the set), all in brilliant and stunning color. Presented is a very attractive near-complete set of this classic issue. Missing are the rookie cards of Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks, as well as Jackie Robinson, for completion. Condition is 26% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (including a couple Nr/Mt-Mt), 63% Vg-Ex to Ex, and 11% Gd to Vg (mostly Vg). We have selected eight cards for grading and encapsulation by PSA. Keys: #1 Williams (EX-MT 6), 3 Irvin (Vg), 13 Martin (Nr/Mt), 17 Rizzuto (Ex), 20 Spahn (Ex), 30 Mathews (EX+ 5.5), 32 Snider (EX-MT 6), 36 Wilhelm (Ex-Mt), 37 Ford (EX 5), 45 Ashburn (Ex+), 50 Berra (Ex), 70 Doby (20/80 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 90 Mays (VG-EX 4), 102 Hodges (95/5 T/B, otherwise Vg-Ex+), 132 Lasorda RC (VG-EX+ 4.5), 201 Kaline RC (EX 5), 239 Skowron RC (Vg-Ex), and 250 Williams (VG 3). This is a very consistent near-complete set of this early 1950s classic. Technically the set falls into the "mid-grade" category. Sets in this grade are especially desirable and are among the most outstanding and least volatile values in the world of vintage cards. The total SMR value for just the five cards graded EX or better is $1,230. Total: 247 cards. This outstanding lot originates from the collection of legendary pioneer collector Paul Pollard. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+.
