Graded NGM 9.5 by KSA. Extremely desirable rookie card of Wayne Gretzky, universally recognized as the greatest hockey player ever. This card is the "1952 Topps Mickey Mantle" of hockey cards! The Gretzky rookie will always be one of the few most important of all hockey cards, especially prized in high grade. The 1979-1980 O-Pee-Chee hockey issue is extremely condition-sensitive due to its blue flush-to-the-border design. The offered example displays light wear on the corners, bright colors, a flawless image, and excellent centering. Clean reverse. We have reviewed this card ourselves, and in our opinion the card has been trimmed on three of the four edges, although someone else may have a different opinion. Wayne Gretzky's O-Pee-Chee rookie card is part of PSA's Top 250 Sportscards in the Hobby set, based on the book Collecting Sports Legends: The Ultimate Hobby Guide, by Joe Orlando, which selects the most significant cards from all the different sports. Examples of premier rookie cards, such as this, in extremely high grades have realized especially strong prices recently. The O-Pee-Chee Gretzky card is one of the cards that is recognizable to collectors of all ages, and as such, is one of the great cardboard collectibles in our hobby. Reserve $10.
