Very striking, newly discovered example of one of Ty Cobb's true rookie cards: the extremely rare Detroit Seamless Steel Tubes postcard, issued in 1907. This card represents one of Cobb's true rookie cards, and from within that pool of qualifying rookie cards, it remains one of his rarest. To date, only eight examples (including the offered card) have been authenticated by SGC and PSA combined (SGC has certified seven). This example has never been mailed. There is no writing on the postcard reverse. Light wear to the corners and crease-free. Encapsulated as Authentic by SGC due to an irregular cut along the bottom edge. The intimidating image of Cobb is bold and contrasts sharply against the tan background. The caption below Cobb’s image reads; Tyrus Cobb, Of Royston, Georgia, - Age 21, Member of the Detroit Base Ball Team, and the greatest ball player of the year in America. - From Detroit Seamless Steel Tubes Co. - Detroit, Mich. - Makers of the Famous – ‘Detroit’ Locomotive Flue. This is only the third example of this exceptionally rare postcard that we have ever offered! A remarkable surviving example of one of Cobb's most elusive early cards and one that qualifies as one of his true rookie cards. Reserve $5,000.
