Presented is an extremely substantial collection of mid-1980s Topps Garbage Pail Kids stickers composing a complete run of the first twelve original sticker series (including both back variations of the iconic "Adam Bomb" stickers). Clearly a parody of Coleco's popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls (which ultimately led to a trademark infringement lawsuit), Topps Garbage Pail Kids cards were the brainchild of Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Art Spiegelman (of Maus graphic novel fame), who was also the main creator of Topps Wacky Packages. Each sticker features a humorously drawn cartoon kid with a rhyming, alliterative, or word-play nickname. Topps Garbage Pail Kids stickers were an instant hit with youngsters, with many schools banning them because of their edgy content and the distractions they caused. The collection consists of the following: 1) 1985 Topps Series 1 Complete Set (82 stickers) Plus Two Back Variations and a Wrapper: 67% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a few Mint) and 33% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a few slightly lesser). Keys: #1a Nasty Nick (Ex), 1b Evil Eddie (Nr/Mt-Mt), 8a Adam Bomb (NM/MT 8, "Cheater's License" back), 8a Adam Bomb (NM 7, "Checklist" back), and 8b Blasted Billy (65/35 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt-Mt+, "Checklist" back). Includes both back variations of #5a and 5b. The original wrapper is in Good condition due to an internal tear. 2) 1985 Topps Series 2 Complete (84 stickers): 6% Nr/Mt or slightly better, 41% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 53% Vg to Vg-Ex (including one lesser). 3-12) 1986-1988 Topps Series 3 through Series 12 Complete Sets (844 stickers) Plus Nine Wrappers: 66% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including some Mint) and 34% Ex to Ex-Mt (including 2% lesser). Also included are original wrappers from Series 4 through 12 in mostly Excellent or better condition, with a couple lesser.
