Gorgeous full-color window display poster (17 x 12 inches) advertising for R89 "Mickey Mouse Bubble Gum" cards issued by Gum, Inc. of Philadelphia in 1935. The advertising display features Mickey Mouse blowing a bubble on the left portion along with a smaller image of Mickey holding the "picture-album" designed to hold the cards in the lower-right corner. The text printed in red along the top reads “Mickey Mouse Bubble Gum.” The poster was designed to be displayed in candy-stores to promote sales of the company’s product. Mickey Mouse Bubble Gum cards are considered by many to be the single most classic 1930s nonsport bubble-gum card set. The brilliant colors, high-quality artwork, and popular subject matter have always made this set a favorite with collectors. It is also worth noting that cards from this set are much scarcer than most collectors realize, and far more difficult to find than most baseball cards of the era (such as Goudeys, National Chicles, Play Balls, etc.). The full-color poster displays two vertical and two horizontal folds (as issued) and still has the original light strips of glue on each side completely intact, which allowed it to adhere to the candy-store window. Aside from a few light surface wrinkles, the poster remains in Near Mint condition overall. Because of their intended use, it is understandable that very few of these point-of-sale advertising displays survived. This is the only example we have offered and to the best of our knowledge the only example to be offered in a public auction. A superb and extremely rare sign, which would be an outstanding companion piece to any complete R89 “Mickey Mouse Bubble Gum” set or addition to any advertising collection. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $1,000.
