Complete set of this rare 1930s gum card set issued by National Chicle that features famous pilots and airplanes of the day. Condition is 6% Ex or better, 58% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 36% lesser (including twenty-five trimmed). Keys: #1 Putnam (Vg), 20 Rickenbacker (Vg-Ex), 23 Von Richthofen (slight trim to bottom edge, otherwise Ex-Mt), 32 Doolittle (slight trim to left edge, otherwise Ex), 36 Lindbergh (Vg), 48 Earhart (Vg-Ex), 49 Wright (Vg+), and 72 Spirit of St. Louis (Vg). All of card numbers 25 to 48 are "Series of 48" back variations. Notwithstanding the presence of some trimmed cards, this is still a very attractive mid-grade complete set of this classic 1930s nonsports issue. Total: 108 cards. Reserve $300.
