Prewar Baseball - T Tobacco Cards
Graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC (submitted by REA). Outstanding, newly discovered example of key T210 Red Border Casey Stengel. Stengel is featured as an outfielder with Maysville of the Blue Grass League at the very beginning of his professional baseball career. This is one of card collecting's most interesting and noteworthy tobacco-card rarities. Stengel (from Series 6) is one of the two key cards in the T210 Old Mill Tobacco card set (the other being Joe Jackson from Series 8). Like the T210 Joe Jackson, Stengel is an extremely rare card (both are far rarer than a T206 Wagner) with fewer than twenty examples known. To date, SGC has graded only nine examples: two EX 5, one VG 3, two GOOD 2, two FAIR 1.5, one POOR 1, and one Authentic. PSA has graded nine: one EX-MT 6, two VG-EX 4, two VG 3, one GOOD 2, and three PR 1. Jackson and Stengel, in addition to being the two most famous cards from the T210 series, each are among the rarest and most highly prized of all tobacco cards. The offered example is an extremely attractive card, far better than most T210 Old Mill cards (which with their bright-red borders are so susceptible to corner and edge wear). Bright and clean with even corner wear, a light crease on the top right, and minor chipping to the fragile red borders. Downgraded from Vg due to a pinhole on the bottom border. The reverse is bright and clean with strong, crisp printing of the advertisement for Old Mill Cigarettes centered to the top. This is a very attractive, newly discovered T210 Old Mill Tobacco example of Casey Stengel, one of the premier Hall of Fame rarities in all of 1910-era tobacco-card collecting. Reserve $1,000.
