Ticket stub from Game 3 of the 1916 World Series between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox held at Ebbets Field on October 10th. The ticket, which is for a lower-tier reserved seat, reads "Game 1," but the number denotes the first game in Brooklyn, not the first game of the Series. This ticket commemorates the very first World Series game ever played at Ebbets Field and also the first Series win in franchise history. Brooklyn fans would have to savor it, because it was the team's only victory in the Series that year. Jack Coombs defeated Carl Mays 4-3 in front of 21,087 fans, which was the smallest attendance figure of the Series. This is only the third example of this highly prized and historically significant World Series ticket we have ever offered. The first appeared as Lot 1025 in our May 2012 auction, where it realized $2,666. This ticket stub is an ideal example with two sections attached. If only one section were present, it would still be referred to by ticket collectors as a stub. Having both sections attached is ideal! Because of the two sections, a full two-part 1916 World Series ticket stub like this is sometimes mistaken for a full ticket. (A full ticket would actually have three sections). This is a particularly outstanding example! Graded GOOD 2 by PSA (submitted by REA). The ticket (3.75 x 1.75 inches) has only a small area of paper loss on the reverse, otherwise it is in exceptionally strong Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500.
