United States appointment, dated February 14, 1888, signed by Grover Cleveland, 22nd and 24th President of the United States. The document confirms the appointment of Edgar F. Dell as "Postmaster at Woodbury in the County Gloucester, state of New Jersey." Signed in black fountain pen by "Grover Cleveland" as President, and by "Don M. Dickinson" as Postmaster General. Each signature is boldly executed and grades "9." The gold seal of the United States Post Office Department remains fully affixed in the lower left corner. The document (17 x 14 inches) displays heavy, uneven toning, one vertical and three horizontal folds, tears along the fold lines and edges, moderate-to-heavy staining, and tape residue along the border. The piece is currently mounted to a white backing by means of clear tape along the entire top border. In Poor condition overall. Accompanied by a modern engraving of Grover Cleveland. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
