Graded NM 7 by PSA (submitted by REA). One of only seven examples graded at this level with just one higher. High-grade rookie card of Joe Paterno, the key card from the first major football card series ever issued by Topps: 1950 Felt Backs. These unusual cards, honoring college football stars, were issued a year prior to Topps’ 1951 Connie Mack's All Stars and Current All Stars, as well as the 1951 Topps Red and Blue Back baseball sets. The cards measure 7/8 x 1-7/16 inches with a portrait image set against a colored background (blue, red, green, brown, or yellow), and with the back of each card featuring a felt pennant representing the player’s school. This card is centered slightly to the top, with a bold blue background, light edge and corner wear, and a clean felt reverse. An exceptional high-grade example of the key card from this very significant and scarce early Topps issue, which has always been somewhat overlooked by collectors, perhaps because of its unusual dimensions. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
