Graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC. Rare example of key Hall of Famer Ty Cobb from the D303 General Baking issue. Issued in 1915 by the General Baking Company, this series shares designs with several closely related caramel issues (E90-1 American Caramel Company, E106 American Caramel, T216 Kotton, etc.) from the same era. All General Baking cards are extremely rare, but an example of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb is naturally even more noteworthy and desirable. The offered example has bold colors and outstanding registration. Centered to the left, with light creasing and moderate wear to the corners. There are two small spots of surface wear; one next to Cobb's bat and the second near the left border. The reverse shows a boldly printed advertisement for General Baking and its products, with touches of paper loss near the top edge. A total of only eight D303 General Baking cards of Cobb (batting pose) have ever been graded according to the combined population reports of PSA and SGC. This very pleasing example of Ty Cobb from this rare prewar food issue would be a welcome addition to any D303, type-card, or Hall of Fame collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
