Original Willard Mullin cartoon artwork (mixed media on coquille board) produced for publication in 1947. Signed by the artist along the base. The artwork, titled "Fireman Save My Game," pictures a Giants player shouting "Help" and compares the lack of a Giants bullpen closer to the Yankees' Joe Page and Dodgers' Hugh Casey, both of whom are pictured. Dated "1947" in pencil at the base. Willard Mullin was one of America's best-loved sports cartoonists, not to mention one of the most prolific (he worked for the New York World-Telegram from 1934 to 1966). Today, he is best remembered today as the creator of the "Brooklyn Bum," one of the most iconic images in the field. 16.25 x 20.5 inches. Good to Very Good condition (with normal editorial markings and trimmed borders). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $100.
