Cut signature of Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson. Mathewson's signature, scripted in black fountain pen, grades "8" overall. The cut has been affixed to the upper left corner of a modern-day photo of Mathewson as a member of the New York Giants, circa 1910. Mathewson was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame, along with Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, and Honus Wagner. Of those elite five, Mathewson's signature is by far the rarest because of his untimely death at the age of forty-five in 1925. The cut (2.75 x .75 inches) is in Near Mint condition. The photo (8 x 10 inches) displays a few light creases and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
