Chicago Bulls home jersey worn by Michael Jordan during his 1997-1998 MVP and World Championship season, which was also his final year with the club. This is one of the most documented Michael Jordan game-used jerseys we have ever offered. It was originally purchased at a 2005 CharitaBulls auction by famed actress/director Penny Marshall. Marshall as many collectors know, owned one of the most comprehensive and valuable sports memorabilia collections ever assembled, which was displayed in a museum-like setting. In 2019, Resolution Photomatching conclusively photo matched the jersey to the one worn by Jordan in a game against the Washington Wizards, held at the United Center in Chicago on April 7, 1998. Jordan signed the jersey in 2006 at his youth basketball camp and that signing was supervised and witnessed by a representative of Upper Deck. Both the original CharitaBulls receipt, made out to Penny Marshall, and the Resolution Photomatching LOA accompany the jersey, as does the Upper Deck COA. (Each can be viewed in its entirety on our website). The white mesh jersey is lettered "Bulls" on the front and features the number "23" on the front and reverse. "Jordan" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All letters and numerals have been appliquéd in red on black tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Nike 50" label, both an NBA and Chicago Bulls team tag, and a flag tag reading "Length + 4." Jordan has signed the jersey in black Sharpie (grading "9") on the reverse numeral "2." The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays light wear.
As noted earlier, this jersey was worn by Jordan on April 7, 1998, in a game against the Washington Wizards. Jordan played 32:59 minutes in the contest and led all players in scoring with 30 as the Bulls defeated the Wizards 103-85. Jordan was 11 for 21 from the floor, including one three-pointer, and made seven of his eight free-throw attempts. Jordan averaged 28.7 points per game that season to help lead the Bulls to a first place finish in the NBA Central Division. Jordan was even better in the postseason, averaging 32.4 points per game to help Chicago win its third consecutive World Championship. Jordan's efforts earned him his fifth regular-season MVP Award at season's end. He was also named the NBA Finals MVP for the sixth and final time. Jordan retired after the 1997-1998 season and even though he returned to the NBA for two more seasons in 2001, he never again donned a Bulls jersey. This is one of the finest Michael Jordan game-used jerseys in the hobby: a fully documented and photo-matched example, with the provenance of having once resided in Penny Marshall's personal collection, and worn by Jordan during an MVP and Championship season, which was also his final year in a Bulls uniform. LOA from Resolution Photomatching. COA from Upper Deck. Also accompanied by the original CharitaBulls receipt. Opening Bid $100,000. Estimate (open).
