Postwar Baseball - 1950s Cards
Collection of six cards from the circa 1947 Bond Bread set, one of the most historically significant baseball-card sets ever issued, each graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). The thirteen-card set is devoted entirely to Jackie Robinson and features the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer in various black-and-white poses on glossy card stock. The cards were regionally distributed only in the New York area, and were primarily available in black neighborhoods. One card was packaged with each loaf of Bond Bread. SGC Grading Composite (card numbers provided according to The Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards): FAIR 1.5 (1 card): #10 Sliding. POOR 1 (4 cards): #2 Batting/white sleeves, 11 Fielding/ball in glove, 12 Fielding/no ball visible, and 13 Throwing. Authentic (1 card): #4 Leaping/scoreboard in back. (Important set-dating note: In the past, guides have always dated all Jackie Robinson Bond Bread cards as issued in 1947. Recent outstanding research assembled by two true card scholars and presented on Net54 conclusively proves the set was actually issued over a period of several years, 1947-1950. That is why we've added a "circa" to "1947" in this description. Here's the link: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=171169. The circa 1947 Bond Bread issue is a historic set, dating from Jackie Robinson's earliest days in the Major Leagues, and individual cards from this classic issue will always be extremely desirable. This is a rarely offered collection of six cards from this highly desirable set! Total: 6 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
