Attractive example of Hall of Famer Rube Marquard from the 1912 T227 "Series of Champions." Issued by Miners Extra and Honest Long Cut, T227 “Series of Champions” are unique in design. There are only twenty-five cards in the set, including four ballplayers. This example of Marquard is clean both front and back, with striking colors, no stains, moderate wear on the corners, and centered to the bottom. A heavy crease extending across the lower portion of the card accounts for the modestly assigned grade of GOOD 2 by PSA. The reverse features a biography of Marquard and advertising for Honest Long Cut Tobacco. T227s, which were packaged in tobacco pouches without protection from either tobacco or general handling, rarely survive in high grade. This is a very attractive low-grade example of one of Marquard's rarest and most unusual tobacco cards from this rare, uniquely designed, and, in our opinion, extremely overlooked tobacco issue.
