Presented is an extremely attractive example of Hall of Famer Walter Johnson/portrait (Washington) from the classic T206 White Border set featuring a desirable Sovereign 350 advertising reverse. Sovereign is an uncommon back, not in the same league as Drum or Uzit, but unusual and seen far less often the standard Piedmont or Sweet Caporal advertising backs. The T206 Walter Johnson portrait is one of the most famous of all vintage baseball cards. This card is widely recognized to be among Walter Johnson's most striking. In fact, the majestic portrait of Johnson on this card is considered by many advanced collectors to be the single best image of Walter Johnson to appear on any baseball card. Bold colors, flawless registration, evenly worn corners, and centering towards the left. Light creasing to the right of Johnson's face is present but not at all distracting. Boldly printed reverse. This is a very pleasing scarce-back example of this classic Walter Johnson tobacco card. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
