Extraordinary original unopened wax box of 1967 Topps Wacky Packages, consisting of 24 unopened wax packs. The 1967 set was the very first of all Wacky Pack sets, and therefore of great historical significance to both the Topps Gum Company and American popular culture. The success of this set, designed with perforations on card stock with gummed glue on the reverse, predated the sticker format that is most closely associated with Wacky Packs, but these were the first. This is the set that kicked off the Wacky Pack craze! When Wacky Packages were issued by Topps in the late 1960s, kids went wild. Whether it was the times, as youngsters became more enlightened to the manipulations of Madison Avenue, or the amusing irreverence of the artwork, the set struck a chord with the youth of America that continues to this day. In the world of Wacky Packs, this first set is both rare and historically significant. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, there is, of course, the very real possibility that within this box are Mint or Gem Mint examples. The box comes shrink-wrapped by Baseball Card Exchange (owned by Steve Hart, the foremost expert on unopened material). This is an exceptionally rare wax box, surviving in extraordinary condition, from this popular 1960s Topps nonsport issue. Total: 24 packs. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
