One-page typed letter, dated August 28, 1962, signed by Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States. In his letter, written on his personal letterhead, Reagan writes to a friend and offered his regrets in not being able to accept an invitation to an unspecified function. In part: "I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kind invitation and how sorry I am that it is impossible for me to accept at this time. Cancellation of G. E. Theatre has presented me with the problem of embarking on a new course. Until such time as I know what my work will be, where it will take me, schedule, etc., I cannot make any advance commitments." It is signed "Ronald Reagan" in blue ink (grading "7/8." This letter was written during a crossroad of Regan's life. He had been host of General Electric Theater on television from 1954 until its cancellation in 1962. Following that termination, Reagan officially joined the Republican Party and became more active in politics. He successfully ran for Governor of California in 1966, a position which later helped him gain national traction for his future Presidential campaigns. The letter (8.5 x 11 inches) displays two horizontal mailing folds, a small tear along the top border, light creasing, and two small, light stains. In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
