Exceptional complete set of eighteen cards from the 1901 Ogden's Guinea Gold (Unnumbered Series of 18) set, highlighted by golf legends Tom Morris and Harry Vardon. Each card is graded and encapsulated by SGC. In addition to being among the earliest of all golf-card issues, the Ogden's Guinea Gold cards are considered by many serious collectors to be among the most difficult of all vintage golf-card issues to collect in high grade. Their black border design makes these cards extremely susceptible to damage. This is an outstanding collection of these important early golf-card rarities with almost all in very high grade. The SGC grades are as follows: EX/NM 80 (2 cards): Balfour (playing) and Low. EX 60 (2 cards): Morris and Paxton. VG/EX 50 (1 card): Vardon v. Braid w/no spectators. VG 40 (3 cards): Tait, Vardon v. Braid w/spectators right and back, Vardon v. Braid w/spectators right. GOOD 30 (6 cards): Balfour (standing), Hutchings, Hutchinson, Massey, Rowe, Vardon v. Braid (2 golfers). FAIR 20 (2 cards): Auchterlome and Vardon v. Braid (vertical). Authentic (2 cards): Robb and Vardon v. Braid w/spectators hedge. This is an outstanding collection for this issue, very carefully assembled by a serious collector. The equivalent SMR value for the group (excluding the thirteen cards graded less than VG/EX) is $635. Total: 18 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
