Rare full ticket issued for the first title bout between Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston held at the Convention Center in Miami, Florida, on February 25, 1964. PSA has encapsulated the ticket and certified it as "Authentic." This is one of only two full 1964 Clay vs. Liston tickets listed in the PSA Population report. It is also the first example we have ever offered and one of only three we have ever seen. As he promised, Clay shocked the world by defeating the heavily favored Liston to capture the World Heavyweight title in Miami that night. Shortly after the bout, he joined the Nation of Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. The ticket (6 x 2.5 inches) displays light surface wear on the front and what appears to be a very thin layer of paper residue on the reverse, possibly from having once been mounted. Excellent to Mint in its overall appearance. An attractive example of this historically significant and rare boxing ticket. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+.
