Early 1970s New York Knicks home jersey worn by Hall of Fame point guard Walt "Clyde" Frazier. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is the first Walt Frazier jersey we have ever handled and the fact that it dates from the era of the club's 1973 World Championship season makes it especially appealing. The white dureen jersey is lettered "New York" across the front and features the number "10" on the front and reverse. "Frazier" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All the numerals, along with the front lettering, are appliquéd in orange on blue tackle twill. The reverse lettering is appliquéd in sold blue tackle twill. Located in the collar are a "Cosby" label, a "46" size tag, and a laundry tag. Despite the absence of a year tag (common for Knicks jerseys of this era), MEARS was able to date the jersey to the three-year period 1972-1974 by the style of Cosby label (post 1971) and the fact that the Knicks switched to mesh jerseys in 1975. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations. Moderate wear is displayed throughout, including light, scattered staining on the front.

Like Mickey Mantle and Joe Namath, Walt Frazier is one of the most famous postwar athletes in New York sports history by virtue of his leading the Knicks to the only two World Championships in franchise history. After a stellar college career at Southern Illinois University, Frazier was selected by the Knicks with the fifth overall pick in the 1967 NBA draft. Named a member of the NBA All-Rookie Team after his first season, Frazier quickly blossomed into one of the game's top point guards, eventually leading the Knicks to the 1970 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. With Willis Reed limited by a leg injury in Game 7, Frazier put the team on his back, recording 36 points, seven rebounds, 19 assists and six steals in the Knicks' memorable 113-99 victory. In 1973 he once again led the Knicks to a win in the NBA Finals over the Lakers, marking the second and last World Championship in New York Knicks history. Frazier retired in 1980 with 15,581 points (18.9 ppg), 4,830 rebounds, and 5,040 assists. Including among his many honors and accomplishments are four selections to the All-NBA First Team, seven selections to the NBA All-Defensive First Team, and seven NBA All-Star Game appearances. The Knicks retired Frazier's number "10" in 1979 (one of only eight every retired by the club). Frazier was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987 and in 1996 he was selected to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. Graded A10 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with no deductions). LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Opening Bid $2,500. Estimate (open).
