Football Cards or Memorabilia
Exceedingly rare and early two-toned New York Giants football pennant dating from the 1920s. The colorful painted graphics on the left feature a generic image of football player running with the ball. The lettering to the right, which is in white felt, reads "New York." Unlike most pennants, this example consists of two separate pieces of felt (one red, the other white), sewn together. While the pennant does not include the team name "Giants," the quality of the pennant, the use of red felt (the Giants wore red in the 1920s), and the fact that there were no other prominent professional or semi-professional football teams in New York at the time, almost certainly establishes this as a New York Giants pennant. All material dating from the New York Giants early years is rare and this pennant is no exception. This is the first example we have ever offered and we have never seen another. The pennant (35 inches in length), which is complete with its original white tassels, displays several small insect holes in the main body, as well as a slightly larger hole directly to the right of the "K" in "York." In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.  Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
