Original news photo capturing Lou Gehrig in 1938. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. The photo pictures Gehrig posing in a fielding position at first base prior to a game at Yankee Stadium. A "Wide World Photo" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the original paper news caption, dated "5/23/38." As noted in the caption, Gehrig was nearing his 2,000 consecutive game played. He achieved that accomplishment a week later, on May 31st. The photo (9 x 7 inches) displays a few very light surface wrinkles and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
