Original news photo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig posing together prior to the first game of the season in 1929. Certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. Both Ruth and Gehrig are captured wearing their team jackets as they pose together on the front steps of the dugout while awaiting the start of the club's home opener against the Boston Red Sox. An "Associated Press" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the original paper news caption, dated "4/18/29." A few later date stamps and editorial markings can also be found on the reverse. The photo (7.25 x 9.25 inches) displays a number of edge tears, as well as a slight interior tear affecting Gehrig's image. In Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
