Detailed bronze figurine of Mickey Mantle by renowned artist Palmer Murphy. The ten-inch figurine depicts Mantle in uniform as a member of the New York Yankees as he stands leaning against a bat. The bronze base features Palmer Murphy's signature. The figurine is mounted upon a wooden base (2 inches) that displays a bronze replica of the famous Yankee Stadium facade, along with eight images of a batter in mid swing (four left handed and four right handed; in honor of Mantle being a switch-hitter). In an accompanying signed handwritten note to our consignor, dated "11/19," Murphy has confirmed that this is the only bronze made of this Mantle piece, therefore distinguishing it as a "1/1." In part: "The Mickey Mantle sculpture was commissioned back in 2012 (?) and cast by Sincere Metal Works in Massachusetts using the lost-wax process. It was cast in bronze and is the only cast that has ever been issued." Murphy is best known for his bronze statues, and his work has been displayed at both the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and at the Babe Ruth Museum in Baltimore. This is an exceptional high-quality work of art that could be displayed proudly in many settings and different types of collections. Near Mint to Mint condition. Total height (including the wooden base): 12 inches. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
