Full ticket from the first New York Mets home game in franchise history, held at the Polo Grounds on April 13, 1962, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. This is the only example graded at this level, with just one graded higher (NM 7). The Mets' historic home opener in 1962 was played on a dreary, rainy day, which accounted for the sparse turnout of just 12,447 fans. Despite that fact, full tickets from the game are scarce. This is only the second example we have ever offered, and we cannot recall having seen more than just a few others at auction. Its scarcity notwithstanding, the offered ticket (6 x 1.5 inches), issued for a "Lower Stand Res. Seat," is also distinguished by its remarkable condition, ranking as the second-highest graded example in the PSA Population Report. It was probably fitting that the New York Mets home opener was scheduled for Friday the 13th, as no team in history had more bad luck in a single season than Casey Stengel's lovable misfits. The Mets rewrote the record books that year, finishing with 120 losses, a mark of futility that has never been equaled. This is an extremely significant souvenir commemorating the birth of the New York Mets franchise. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
