Cut signature of Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson, rendered in black fountain pen. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the cut and graded the signature NM-MT 8. The signature appears to be cut from a financial document. Mathewson was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame, along with Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, and Honus Wagner. Of those elite five, Mathewson's signature is by far the rarest because of his untimely death at the age of forty-five in 1925. The cut (3 x .75 inches) has been affixed to a slightly larger black mount and is otherwise in apparent Near Mint condition. (Please note: Beckett Authentication Services declined to write a letter on this piece.) Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
