Complete set of 200 1978 Grand Slam trade cards, with all but one signed on the front by the respective player, including 45 Hall of Fame players, as well as Football Hall of Famer George Halas. (Halas played for the New York Yankees in 1919.) With few exceptions, the signatures, penned in a variety of inks, are boldly scripted and grade "9" or "10." It should be noted that this set was produced in 1978 by longtime collector Jack Wallin specifically with autograph collectors in mind. The hope was that collectors would get each of the cards signed. Unfortunately, Carl Reynolds (card #53") died while the set was production and a second card #53 was produced that featured Sal Maglie. Both the Reynolds and Maglie cards are included here, but, obviously, only the Maglie card is signed. The only card in the set that is not signed is card #178 George McQuinn (McQuinn died on December 24, 1978). The 45 Hall of Fame players featured in this collection are DiMaggio, Koufax, Greenberg, Durocher, Lemon, Averill, Hoyt, Lopez, L. Waner, Feller, Sewell, Roush, Dickey, Mize, Boudreau, Terry, Gehringer, Coveleski, Kelly, Herman, Hubbell, Leonard, Grimes, T. Jackson, Slaughter, Lindstrom, Ferrell, Musial, Newhouser, Conlan, Doerr, Bell, Marquard, J. Johnson, Alston, Kell, Lyons, Reese, Irvin, Rizzuto, Roberts, Schoendienst, Spahn, Gomez, and Cronin. Near-Mint condition overall, with just a few in slightly lesser grade. Total: 200 cards (199 signed). Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
