Graded GD+ 2.5 by SGC. Extremely attractive example of one of Ruth's truly great early 1920s cards. The V61 Neilson's Chocolate (Type 1) series is one of the most substantial and overlooked sets from the 1920s. This is the key card from the set and one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. This example offers a crisp image, outstanding centering, honest wear to the corners, and light creasing. The reverse, which features advertising for "Neilson's Big League Bars," is boldly printed and well centered. It is interesting to note that this card was produced utilizing the same design and image as the American Caramel E120 series. The V61 Neilson's Chocolate (Type 1) set is numbered (Ruth is #37). Issued one card per chocolate bar, Neilson's Chocolate cards are almost never found in high grade. Few cards of Ruth date from the early 1920s. This is an attractive yet relatively affordable Babe Ruth card, dating from the early 1920s (an era in which few cards sets of any quality were issued). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+.
