One-page document, dated July 6, 1818, signed by James Monroe (1758-1831), 5th President of the United States (1817-1825). The document, which is both printed and handwritten, grants James Barr 160 acres of land in Illinois and has been signed in black ink by President James Monroe (grading "8") and countersigned by the commissioner of the general land office. The official government seal, which is faded, is securely affixed in the lower left corner. The document (12 x 9.25 inches; visible dimensions) displays one vertical and three horizontal folds, toning, and moderated foxing. In apparent Very Good condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 16.75 x 14.25 inches. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
