Original photo of Boston Red Sox pitcher Eddie Cicotte taken by noted baseball photographer Paul Thompson. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I Paul Thompson photograph by PSA/DNA. The photo captures Cicotte in his pitching followthrough motion while he warmups up on the sideline. Thompson's credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the handwritten pencil notation "Cicotte Boston American pitcher." Although no year is listed, Pennock played with the Boston only between the years 1908 and 1912, thereby dating the photo to that five-year span. Cicotte was traded to the White Sox in the middle of the 1912 season. One of the top pitchers in baseball during his years with the White Sox, he was later banned from baseball in 1921 by newly elected Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Landis for his key role in conspiring to "throw" the 1919 World Series. The photo (4.5 x 6.5 inches) displays a small chip in both the upper and lower right corners, as well as a tiny edge tear. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
