In 1996, led by a rookie shortstop named Derek Jeter, the New York Yankees won the World Series by defeating the Atlanta Braves in six games. The victory not only marked the team's first world championship since 1978, but also the start of the next great dynasty in franchise history. Offered is a 1996 New York Yankees World Series trophy commemorating that historic victory. Of all the various trophies and awards created to honor excellence in the field of sports, perhaps none is more attractive or visually impressive than the Major League Baseball World Series trophy, produced by world-renowned jewelers Balfour. The imposing design features twenty-eight gold-colored pennants, bearing the team name of each Major League franchise respectively, displayed around the perimeter of the black wooden base. The interior metal design consists of a silver baseball, set within a gold band, atop which rests a crown. Displayed directly in front of this are the 1999 World Series press pins for the Yankees and the Braves. The gold-colored band affixed around the base reads "1996 World Series Atlanta Braves vs. New York Yankees" in black lettering. Like many of the World Series trophies in the hobby today, this example was originally obtained from a New York Yankees executive. The metal ball is heavily tarnished and the remaining components display light-to-moderate wear. In Excellent condition overall. Height: 12.5 inches. Base diameter: 7 inches. Base circumference: 23 inches. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
