Trio of early baseball backs relating to either Ty Cobb or Christy Mathewson. 1) 1914 first edition of Busting 'Em by Ty Cobb (Edward J. Clode, New York, 1914. The name of a former owner is written in black ink on the front flyleaf. Moderate wear and some toning to the pages. In Very Good condition. Accompanied by a facsimile dustjacket. 2) 1925 Sixth American Checker Tourney edited by John C. Finley (Morris-Systems Publishing Co., Detroit, Michigan, 1925). The hardcover book chronicles the games played at the tournament held at the Hotel Alamac in New York City from April 29th to May 14th, 1924. The book is noteworthy for baseball collectors because, as listed in the recorded "Minutes of the Meetings of the Sixth American Checker Congress," Christy Mathewson was installed as the group's "second Vice-President." The book appears to have been rebound in red cloth boards, with the gilt-stamped lettering on the front reading "Sixth American Checker Tourney 1914 [sic] Christy Mathewson Vice-President." The covers are stained and display heavy wear, but the pages are clean. The name of former owner, and a bookplate appear, respectively, on the front flyleaf and interior front cover. In Good condition. 3) 1928 first edition of Ty Cobb The Idol of Baseball Fandom by Sverre O. Braathen (Avondale Press, New York, 1928). The stamped name of a former owner appears on the interior front cover. Moderate wear to the green, cloth boards. In Very Good condition. Total: 3 books. Reserve $100. Estimate (open).
