Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Exceptional sample card of Ed Hahn from this unusual sepia-toned 1910 cabinet-card issue that features Cubs and White Sox players, issued by the Spaulding & Merrick Tobacco Company to promote its Plow Boy Tobacco brand. Their rarity is related to the fact that they were issued only in the Chicago area. Plow Boy Tobacco cards measure 5-3/4 x 8 inches. They are easily one of the rarest of all twentieth-century tobacco issues, and of additional note, these cards show players in poses that are unique to this set. Plow Boy Tobacco cards were issued with two different advertising reverses, one with a simple advertisement and another with the same advertisement along with a checklist of premiums available. The offered example features the advertising reverse without the premium checklist. The card displays a crisp image, with even wear on the corners, and a boldly printed advertisement on the reverse. Minor paper loss extending down the lower left edge accounts for the assigned grade. A superb example worthy of even the most advanced sample or prewar-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
