One-page handwritten letter, undated, signed by Hall of Fame first baseman Jim Bottomley. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the letter and certified the signature and handwriting as "Authentic." In his short letter, Bottomley responds to a fan. In full: "Hello Bert: I sure do hope you do become a great Ball Player. Sincerely, Jim Bottomley - Cardinal First Baseman 1922-1933." Both the text and signature have been scripted in blue ink and grade "8" overall. Bottomley was one of the top hitters of his era, batting over .300 in nine of his first eleven seasons with the Redbirds between the years 1922 and 1932. Bottomley finished his 16-year career with a .310 average, 219 home runs, and 1,422 RBI. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1974. The unlined sheet of paper (6.25 x 4.5 inches) displays a vertical fold and a number of moderate border tears. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
