Chicago Cubs ticket stub (2.25 x 4.25 inches) issued for Game 1 of the 1929 World Series against the Philadelphia Athletics held at Wrigley Field on October 8th. Graded EX 5 by PSA. One of only three graded at this level, with just one graded higher. In one of the most surprising moves in World Series history, A's manager Connie Mack passed over both of his twenty-game winners, George Earnshaw and Lefty Grove, to start Game 1 of the World Series. Instead, Mack chose journeyman pitcher Howard Ehmke, who had only appeared in 11 games with the A's that season. Ehmke proved Mack a genius when he struck out a then-record 13 batters en route to a complete game 3-1 win. Philadelphia went on to make short work of the Cubs, winning the Series in five games.
